Job summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is seeking a Financial Counselor (Infusion) to evaluate scheduled patient visits, verify insurance benefits, and establish patient financial responsibility for infusion therapies.

The role involves preparing estimates, coordinating with providers and pharmacy teams, assisting with Medicaid, income guidelines, and foundation funding, and guiding patients through payment options and assistance programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and five years of medically related customer service, insurance, and/or collections experience, or a bachelor’s degree with one year of related experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and computer proficiency (typing, Excel, Word) is required.
• Epic experience is preferred, particularly referral and authorization workflows.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits specific to infusion therapy, including deductible, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket max.
• Research payer policies and determine coverage criteria for high-cost therapies.
• Identify coverage barriers early and communicate them to providers and pharmacy teams.
• Obtain letters of medical necessity and supporting documentation; coordinate prior authorizations.
• Explain patient financial responsibility and assist with payment plans and assistance programs.
