Job Title: Infrastructure Support Engineer
Location: Boston, MA area (Hybrid — must be within driving range of our colocation facility for periodic on‑site visits)
Department: IT / Infrastructure
Reports to: Infrastructure Engineer
About the Role
We’re a small, fast‑moving healthcare data analytics company looking for an Infrastructure Support Engineer to help manage our internal IT environment and support our hands‑on infrastructure and networking work. You’ll split your time between day‑to‑day helpdesk support for a growing team and hands‑on work with our virtualization, networking, and colocation environment. This is a generalist role at a startup — we care more about resourceful, flexible problem‑solving than deep expertise in any single tool or platform. You’ll work closely with our Infrastructure Engineer and take on increasing ownership as you ramp up.
Key Responsibilities
- Helpdesk & End‑User Support: Provide Tier 1/2 support for employee hardware, software, and account issues via a ticketing system, walk‑up requests, and chat/email.
- Account & Device Management: Administer Active Directory and Microsoft 365 (user accounts, licensing, mailbox access, permissions); provision, image, and maintain employee laptops and endpoints.
- Infrastructure Support: Assist with our on‑prem virtualization environment (Proxmox), networking (firewalls, switches, VLANs), and periodic work at our colocation facility.
- Automation & Scripting: Write PowerShell scripts to automate routine administrative and support tasks; contribute to Ansible‑based provisioning as it matures.
- Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of systems, configurations, and support procedures.
- Collaboration: Work directly with our Infrastructure Engineer and engineering team, escalating and troubleshooting more complex networking or systems issues together.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in IT support/helpdesk, including ticketing systems and hardware/software troubleshooting for end users.
- Experience administering Active Directory and Microsoft 365 (user accounts, permissions, licensing).
- Working knowledge of core networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Comfortable installing, configuring, and troubleshooting desktops, laptops, and basic network equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Resourceful and flexible — comfortable wearing multiple hats and figuring things out in a small‑company environment without established playbooks for every situation.
- Willing to travel periodically to our colocation facility as needed.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Proxmox or another hypervisor (VMware, Hyper‑V).
- Experience with pfSense or other firewall/network appliance administration.
- PowerShell scripting experience; exposure to Ansible or similar configuration‑management tools.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+, or Cisco CCNA.
- Telephony/VoIP experience.
- Broader networking and infrastructure experience, plus some coding/scripting ability beyond PowerShell (e.g., Python, Bash).
