Job summary

The City of Chicago is seeking a Coordinating Engineer I to oversee planning, design, and construction for infrastructure and buildings. This role coordinates field surveys, interfaces with engineers and consultants, and ensures projects stay on schedule and within budget.

Under direction, you will supervise engineers, manage contracts, and prepare reports for management and funding agencies while supporting grant applications and program improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus five years in planning, design, and construction management, with three years supervisory.
• Master’s degree in Engineering plus four years of relevant work, with three years supervisory.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in Illinois is required at time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Directs field surveys to identify conditions impacting construction scope.
• Meets with engineers/consultants to determine scope, costs, criteria and specs.
• Supervises staff and consultants to ensure work meets contract specs.
• Manages budgets and project timelines.
• Interprets plans and assists in resolving design/construction problems.
