An employee in this position interpret s and enforce s construction codes through inspections of infrastructure for residential and commercial developments . Inspects water and sewer lines, streets, driveways, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drainage, and stormwater control measures devices and related items. Review s construction plans, meet s with contractors to review specifications and requirements, inspect s construction in progress and upon completion for adherence to approved plans and specifications. This position also oversees chl orination of new water lines, of concrete, and GPS locating and mapping.
This position reports to the Infrastructure Inspect ions Manager.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Inspects construction work in progress and upon completion for quality of work and adherence to approved plans and specifications; checks for proper grade and materials; takes samples of soils and materials and has compaction, density and other test performed.
Reviews plans and construction drawings for proper location of valves, hydrants, laterals, manholes, water and sewer lines, stormwater control measures, riser structures, spillway pipes through dams and other appurtenances; reviews plans for adherence to adopted engineering specifications such as depth, minimum separation of utilities, locations, materials, and construction methods.
Oversees pressure testing of sewers and vacuum testing of sewer manholes.
Oversees chlorination of lines by contractors; coordinates collection of water samples; oversees pressure testing of water lines ; l ocates connection point into system for contractors.
Meets with contractors, engineers, owners, project managers and architects and reviews and explains construction requirements ; answers questions ; a ttends and participates in pre-construction meetings to explain Town s tandards and common practices.
Completes field inspections of Town-owned projects to enforce L ocal and S tate laws, ordinances and standards; notifies other departments of construction issues; keeps detailed records of projects.
Maintains log and records work activities and field findings; insures that as-builts are submitted upon completion of project; indicates recommendation for acceptance of new lines and systems; completes chlorination reports, using the BlueBeam program.
Answers public inquiries and complaints concerning streets, driveways, stormwater, grading and water and sewer projects.
Conducts i nspection and QA/QC, of third party (CCTV) closed circuit video of sewer mainline, sewer service lateral and storm drain pipes.
Associate’s Degree and a minimum of one (1) year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special preference given to candidates that have taken classes and passed exams in all of the following inspection areas: concrete, asphalt, water, and sewer.
