Job summary

Saint Joseph Medical Center - Joliet is seeking an Infection Preventionist in the Infection Prevention department. The role focuses on surveillance, prevention and control of infections, with responsibility for policy development and staff education.

Education and certifications are required or preferred as outlined, including a bachelor’s degree in life sciences and BLS. RN licensure is required if applicable, with focused experience in infection control and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medicine, nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, public health or life sciences preferred.
• If RN, must be licensed by the State.
• Current BLS certificate on hire and maintained.
• Minimum 2 years in healthcare; 1+ year in infection control or employee health preferred.
• APIC Infection Control courses desirable; CIC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Surveillance, prevention and control of infection.
• Assist with policy and procedure development and implementation.
• Education consultant for hospital staff, physicians, patients, volunteers and visitors on infection control practices.
• Coordinate infection control activities with Infection Control Committee, Medical Staff and hospital staff.
• Respond to potential exposures by communicating with patients, physicians and regulatory agencies.
