Job summary

Prime Healthcare Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL seeks an Infection Preventionist for surveillance, prevention and control of infections. You will support policy development, and ensure compliance with CDC/OSHA/regulatory standards while educating staff, physicians, patients and visitors.

Coordinate infection control activities with the Infection Control Committee and Medical Staff; respond to exposures and communicate with authorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medicine, nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, public health or related field (preferred).
• RN license by the state where the facility is located (if applicable).
• Current BLS certification upon hire and maintain current.
• Minimum two years of healthcare experience; infection control/employee health preferred.
• APIC infection control courses desirable.
• CIC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

The Infection Control Preventionist is responsible for surveillance, prevention and control of infection. Assists with policy and procedure development and implementation while maintaining CDC, OSHA, AOA HFAP/TJC/CMS/local regulatory and other regulatory agency standards or directives. Acts as a primary education consultant to hospital employees, physicians, patients, volunteers and visitors in safe Infection Control/Prevention practices. Coordinates all hospital infection control activities with the Infection Control Committee, Medical Staff and hospital employees. Responds to potential exposures by communicating with patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

• 1. Graduate from an accredited school with a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, public health or other life science related field, preferred.
• 2. If a registered nurse, must be licensed by the State where the facility is located.
• 3. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• 4. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a health care setting required. One year or more of experience in infection control and/or employee health is preferred.
• 5. Successful completion of formal APIC courses in Infection Control desirable.
• 6. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $73,528 to $111,446 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
