Job description

Infection Prevention and Control Nurse

Position Details:

Full Time, Day Shift, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Position Summary:

This role involves maintaining clinical competency through application of nursing knowledge, leadership, and communication skills. The nurse will organize workflow to uphold IPC practices, integrate current standards and regulations, and engage in continuous quality improvement and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Educate center staff on IPC practices as directed by the DON/ADON.
2. Update staff on changes to IPC practices as directed by the DON/ADON.
3. Report infections and cluster illnesses to appropriate authorities such as the Department of Health, NHSN, CDC, etc.
4. Participate in QAPI initiatives related to IPC, including PPE procedures and healthcare-acquired infection practices.
5. Conduct initial and ongoing Fit Testing for staff, maintaining proper documentation.
6. Ensure privacy during medical evaluations related to fit testing and IPC procedures.
7. Communicate openly with patients and families about IPC practices and involve them in decision-making.
8. Monitor nursing care to ensure compliance with policies and IPC practices among staff, doctors, and families.
9. Assist with medication administration, treatments, and patient admissions as needed.
10. Contribute to hiring and orientation of new staff regarding IPC practices.
11. Uphold the dignity and safety of patients concerning IPC protocols.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Licensure & Certification:

Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a current, unencumbered license in the state of employment. IPC Certification must be obtained within six months of hiring.

Experience:

2-5 years as an LPN or RN required; infection control and/or risk management experience preferred.
