Infection Prevention and Control Nurse

Full Time, Day Shift, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining clinical competency through the application of integrated nursing knowledge, skills, leadership, and communication. The nurse exhibits organizational ability related to workflow for maintaining IPC practices in the center. The role involves integrating current standards of practice along with local, state, and federal regulations related to IPC practices. The nurse practices continuous quality improvement and problem-solving skills.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Educate all center partners regarding IPC practices as directed by the DON/ADON.
2. Update center partners on changes to IPC practices as directed by the DON/ADON.
3. Report infections and cluster illnesses to the appropriate governing bodies such as the Department of Health, NHSN, CDC, etc.
4. Participate in QAPI related to IPC practices, including PPE donning/doffing and healthcare-acquired infection prevention.
5. Conduct initial and ongoing fit testing for center partners, maintaining proper documentation.
6. Ensure partner privacy during medical evaluations related to fit testing or IPC procedures.
7. Maintain open communication with patients and families, encouraging participation in IPC-related decision making.
8. Monitor units to ensure appropriate nursing care and adherence to IPC practices by staff, doctors, and families.
9. Assist with medications and treatments, including IV fluids and medications, as needed.
10. Assist with patient admissions as required.
11. Contribute to hiring and orientation of new nursing staff regarding IPC practices.
12. Ensure the dignity and safety of patients concerning IPC practices.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Licensure and Certification:

Graduate from an accredited nursing school with a current, unencumbered license to practice in the state of employment. IPC Certification must be obtained within six months of starting the position.

Experience:

2-5 years of experience as an LPN or RN required. Infection control and/or risk management experience is preferred.
