Job summary

PACS in New York is seeking an Infection Control Coordinator to plan, implement, and oversee the infection control program in a nursing facility. The role ensures compliance with CDC/OSHA and local regulations and requires coordinating with Nursing Services and laboratory support.

You will develop and update infection control protocols, monitor practices, and prepare monthly summaries. Strong reporting and collaboration with administrators are essential for patient safety and quality care.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the infection control program in accordance with current rules and guidelines in nursing care facilities.
• Ensure facility compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local infection control regulations and universal precautions.
• Develop, update infection control precautions and aseptic techniques to correct problem areas.
• Interpret infection control policies and procedures as necessary.
• Maintain a reference library of infection control materials to assist in day-to-day operations.
• Prepare written and oral reports to the Administrator regarding the infection control program.
• Monitor practices to ensure staff follow procedures for exposure to blood/body fluids.
• Conduct rounds to nursing units for case findings, environmental sanitation reviews, and isolation precautions supervision.
• Visit isolated residents to ensure isolation precautions and aseptic technique are followed.
• Coordinate with laboratory support for microbiological/serological services and review infectious disease reports.
• Collaborate with Nursing Services to develop care plans and decontamination/sterilization guidelines.
• Test periodically sterile packs and supplies; monitor shelf life and reprocess as needed.
• Ensure disposal of infective materials follows established procedures.
• Provide monthly infection summaries to Administrator and Nursing Services.
• Prepare investigations on nosocomial and community-acquired infections; report findings and recommendations.
• Maintain written records of residents and staff with nosocomial infections; assist in surveys and tracing sources of infection.
• Assist in discharge planning for residents in isolation or infection control precautions.
• Contribute to facility TB management program development and implementation.
• Report reportable diseases to county/state health departments.
• Perform administrative duties including forms, reports, and evaluations.
