Job summary

The City of San José is seeking a Wastewater Mechanic I/II to perform preventive and corrective maintenance at the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility. You will troubleshoot and repair pumps, valves, gearboxes, and related equipment, while collaborating with other trades and following safety standards.

Position offers full-time work at the Wastewater Facility Maintenance Division; requires a high school diploma or GED, CA driver’s license, and relevant hydraulics/wastewater

Qualifications

• Successful completion of high school, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate.
• Two (2) years journey-level experience as a mechanic in hydraulics, wastewater treatment, or related fields.
• OR four (4) years’ experience assisting Wastewater Mechanics in maintenance and repair at City of San José.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair wastewater buildings and equipment.
• Fabricate and modify parts as needed using shop equipment; welding knowledge is desirable.
• Operate bridge cranes, chain falls, and rigging equipment.
• Perform scheduled inspections and manage spare parts inventory.
• Use work orders and inventory systems to track maintenance.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and update manuals.
• Interpret manuals and drawings to support activities.
• Communicate progress and issues to supervisor.
• Collaborate with other trades to complete tasks.
• Attend required safety and technical training.
