Job summary

The Environmental Services Department of the City of San José is seeking multiple full-time Wastewater Mechanic I/II positions in the Power and Air Team at the San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (700 Los Esteros Road, San Jose, CA 95134).

These roles work rotating shifts (days, graveyard, weekends, holidays) with 5x8 or 4x10 schedules, operating and overhauling large engines, generators, and related equipment.

Qualifications

• High school, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate required.
• Two (2) years of journey-level experience as a mechanic in hydraulics, wastewater treatment, or related field for Wastewater Mechanic I.
• Four (4) years’ experience for Wastewater Mechanic II, or equivalent experience.
• Valid State of California driver’s license.
• Pre-employment respiratory physical exam required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor engines, gas compressors, flares, and blowers.
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Work with other trades and maintenance teams and participate in safety trainings.
