Job summary

The City of San José is seeking a Wastewater Mechanic I/II for the Regional Wastewater Facility Maintenance Division. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining pump and process equipment, with opportunities for training on SCADA/HMI/CMMS systems.

Strong mechanical aptitude and teamwork are essential. Ideal candidates have high school/GED, 2 years journey-level experience or 4 years assisting Wastewater Mechanics, and a valid CA driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate.
• Two years journey-level mechanic experience in hydraulics, wastewater or related field; or four years’ experience assisting wastewater mechanics.
• Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair wastewater plant machinery and equipment (pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.).
• Fabricate/modify parts using shop equipment; welding knowledge desirable.
• Operate cranes and rigging; perform preventive and corrective maintenance; maintain records.
