Job Title: Mechanical & Robotics Technician Entry Level Industrial Maintenance Job Description

The Entry Level Industrial Maintenance Technician supports a highvolume distribution facility by learning to install, maintain, and repair material handling and automated equipment. This role is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who want to develop skills in troubleshooting, preventive and predictive maintenance, and basic electrical work while helping ensure safe and reliable operations. You will receive structured, handson training, work alongside experienced technicians, and gradually take on more complex tasks as your skills grow.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and consistently modeling safe work behaviors.

  • Perform basic scheduled preventive maintenance on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems.

  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on conveyors, motors, belts, sensors, and related components.

  • Support the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated conveyor systems, packaging equipment, and distribution technologies.

  • Learn and perform predictive maintenance tasks under the guidance of experienced technicians.

  • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to complete work orders and accurately document maintenance activities.

  • Help track, organize, and maintain spare parts, tools, and materials to support efficient maintenance operations.

  • Collaborate closely with operations and maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues and minimize downtime.

  • Receive mentoring from experienced technicians and apply best practices in safe work methods and equipment care.

  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, diagrams, and electrical schematics with support as needed.

  • Apply introductory electrical and electronic principles to troubleshoot basic input and output functions.

  • Follow Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with OEM and internal guidelines.

  • Participate in small projects and continuous improvement activities as assigned.

  • Safely use hand tools and power tools for repairs, adjustments, and basic fabrication tasks.

  • Assist with simple metal and wood fabrication tasks to support equipment installation or repair.

  • Lift and move parts and tools up to 49 pounds and perform tasks that require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and standing.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods, including up to 12hour shifts, on concrete or similar surfaces.

  • Travel up to 20% as needed to support maintenance activities at other locations.

  • Work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays, in support of 24/7 operations.

Essential Skills

  • Associates or higher degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the mechanical or electrical field.

  • 2+ years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.

  • 2+ years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.

  • 2+ years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.

  • 1+ years of metal and wood fabrication experience.

  • 1+ years of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.

  • At least 1 year of knowledge and practical use of electrical and electronic principles.

  • Experience with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety guidelines.

  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance.

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including working with hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.

  • Proficient use of hand tools and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Project management experience supporting maintenance or improvement projects.

  • Background as a maintenance technician in an industrial or distribution environment.

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on material handling equipment and automated systems.

  • Familiarity with repair practices for conveyors, motors, belts, sensors, and related components.

  • Ability to perform basic metal or wood fabrication to support equipment installation or repair.

  • Comfort working in a fastpaced, highvolume distribution environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation when completing work orders and maintenance records.

  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from experienced technicians and crossfunctional teams.

Work Environment

This role operates in a highvolume distribution facility with automated material handling and robotic systems. You will frequently perform repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking. The position requires lifting parts and tools that weigh on average 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Success in this environment requires good dexterity, including eye/hand coordination, use of foot pedals, manual tasks such as picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive wrist motion. Working conditions may include small or confined spaces, exposure to dust, fumes, and odors, hot and cold temperatures, indoor and outdoor noise, vibration, standing on concrete floors for long periods, and wet or uneven surfaces. The role requires flexibility to work various schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends and nights, to support continuous operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Slidell, LA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.70 - $26.70/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
