State of Washington’s Department of Labor & Industries invites applications for an Industrial Insurance Underwriter in Tumwater, WA. You will underwrite workers’ compensation policies, update policy information, analyze risk classifications, and communicate with employers and staff to resolve issues.

The role emphasizes customer service, regulatory interpretation, and accuracy, with telework options and flexible schedules.

Qualifications

Associate degree with a field involving tax liabilities, insurance benefits, risk classification, accounting or bookkeeping, research, statistical or management analysis or related field, plus two years’ customer service experience.
Bachelor’s degree with a field involving tax liabilities, insurance benefits, risk classification, accounting or bookkeeping, research, statistical or management analysis or related field.
Four years of experience in a related field with one year of customer service; additional qualifying experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

Underwrite Industrial Insurance workers’ compensation policies as governed by RCW and WAC.
Administer services to ~60 risk classifications across industries.
Analyze and research internal records to ensure accurate underwriting.
Research and adjust agency reporting using EASE program.
Adjudicate claim coverage according to RCW 51.12.
Serve as Department liaison with a broad customer base.
Audit amended reporting records to ensure premiums are calculated and paid per classifications.
