Job summary

The City of Oxnard’s Wastewater Division is seeking a qualified Wastewater Treatment Plant Electrician to join the maintenance team. This role focuses on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of industrial electrical systems across wastewater facilities and the collection system, ensuring safe and reliable operations.

The successful candidate will read schematics, install equipment, and maintain process controls while adhering to NEC and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Four years of journey-level experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
• Valid California Class C Driver's License.
• Obtain CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist (EIT) certification within 18 months of appointment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Strong safety mindset and the ability to work independently while collaborating with teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial electrical systems serving wastewater facilities.
• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain motors, MCCs, VFDs, switchgear, transfer switches, and related equipment.
• Inspect, test, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and process control devices.
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Install conduit, terminate conductors, and ensure code-compliant wiring installations.
• Diagnose electrical failures using testing equipment and apply corrective actions.
• Coordinate maintenance with Operations and Maintenance staff to minimize downtime.
• Maintain maintenance records and work orders in the City’s EAM system.
• Assist with planning, testing, commissioning, and startup of CIP projects.
• Inspect and maintain standby generators and ATS, and EMS distribution systems.
• Maintain CCTV systems and monitoring equipment; follow LOTO and other safety procedures.
