Job summary

General Matter is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to join the Buildings team in Los Angeles. You will learn and assist with power, lighting, and low-voltage designs for industrial facilities and large-scale infrastructure, collaborating with experienced engineers to gain exposure to high-reliability, energy-intensive projects.

You will work on BIM modeling, load analysis, and documentation, while developing skills in Python, C#, Dynamo, and Grasshopper, under senior supervision.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Junior/Senior preferred).
• Foundational coursework in electrical power systems, machines, circuits, and building services.
• Exposure to BIM software such as Revit and AutoCAD.
• Understanding of power distribution, load analysis, and basic electrical design.
• Interest in learning lighting/energy modeling tools (Dialux or IES‑VE).
• Interest/experience with AI tools for design, visual programming (Dynamo/Grasshopper), Python, C#, and open-source projects.
• Proactive, collaborative attitude with desire to learn complex industrial systems.
• Ability to communicate technical information across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and coordination of electrical power systems in BIM for industrial facilities.
• Support load calculations, circuit analysis, and panel schedules under supervision.
• Contribute to medium-voltage distribution networks and backup systems drafts.
• Contribute to lighting design studies, grounding layouts, and protective device coordination.
• Learn BIM modeling using Revit and AutoCAD to align electrical designs with other disciplines.
• Prepare documentation, specifications, and construction drawings for large projects.
• Participate in workflow automation and data analytics using Dynamo/Grasshopper or Python/C#.
• Communicate progress updates within multidisciplinary project teams.
