Job summary

State of Maine seeks an Assistive Technology Specialist in Lewiston to train individuals who are blind or visually impaired in orientation, mobility, and assistive technology solutions. Responsibilities include conducting training, documenting progress, and coordinating with other professionals.

Qualifications

• Advanced education or equivalent experience in blind/low vision rehabilitation.
• ACVREP certification (COMS or CATIS) required prior to permanent status.
• Ability to assess functional needs and provide O&M/AT training.
• Knowledge of ADA/IDEA and accessibility standards.
• Ability to document evaluations and training progress clearly.

Responsibilities

• Assess functional needs using standardized evaluations.
• Instruct individuals who are blind/low vision in O&M and AT usage.
• Conduct usability testing of AT tools and document results.
• Develop individual training plans and goals with clients.
• Collaborate with social services and other professionals to coordinate services.
