Job summary

City of Durham’s Parks and Recreation department seeks a dedicated professional to oversee mature adult, inclusive, and special needs recreation programming and facility operations. You will supervise staff, coordinate programs, manage budgets, build community partnerships, and ensure accessibility and safety across services for Durham residents.

This role emphasizes collaboration with schools, volunteers, and external agencies to advance equity and wellness in the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure services, or a related field.
• Two years of recreation program management, facility management experience.
• Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector certification within six months.
• Valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver’s license or willingness to obtain NC license within 60 days.
• NCTRC Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
• NCBRTL Licensed Recreational Therapist (LRT).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate assigned recreation programming areas including planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and events.
• Administer budgets, monitor expenditures, and prepare cost estimates.
• Oversee recreation facilities operations, scheduling, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and maintain reports, records, and promotional materials; manage data and partnerships.
• Provide customer service and collaborate with community organizations and volunteers.
• Serve as liaison for committees and assist with inclusion initiatives.
