Job summary

KIPP DC in Washington, DC is seeking an Elementary Lead Teacher to deliver math and literacy instruction, foster a joyful, identity-affirming classroom, and collaborate with teams to support student learning and well-being. This in-person role requires daily on-site presence and strong family engagement.

The starting salary is $65,500 with increases based on experience and graduate-level education, per the instructional salary scale. Compensation is non-negotiable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required and teaching experience or residency including lead teaching responsibility.
• Commitment to working with communities with limited access to high-quality educational opportunities.
• Experience in PreK3–12th grade teaching or education degree with student teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teach engaging, standards-aligned lessons informed by student data.
• Build an inclusive, identity-affirming classroom culture where all students belong.
• Collaborate with grade-level/content teams to plan instruction, analyze data, and respond to student needs.
• Communicate regularly with families, including academic updates and support plans.
• Contribute to schoolwide culture and community.
• Grow leadership through roles like grade-level chair, fellowships, or school leadership development cohorts.
• Mentor a Capital Teaching Resident by modeling instruction and weekly coaching.
