Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a dedicated Special Education Assistant to support students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. The role involves implementing instructional plans and monitoring behavior to foster a positive learning environment.

The position requires collaboration with teachers, attendance at IEP meetings, and the ability to adapt activities to diverse student needs. Training in CPR/First Aid is provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; paraeducator assessment or higher education credentials preferred.
• Ability to follow instruction, support instruction plans and implement IEP objectives.
• Willingness to participate in trainings (first aid, CPR, safety procedures).

Responsibilities

• Assists students in regular or self-contained classrooms to participate in activities.
• Administers materials and assignments to support teacher evaluation and progress tracking.
• Provides first aid and medical assistance as needed.
• Assists students with personal care needs and daily living activities.
• Attends meetings and communicates progress with teachers and parents.
• Supports behavioral plans to maintain safe and supportive learning environments.
• Instructs students in academic and social skills in small or large groups.
• Maintains student files and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Monitors student behavior in hallways, restrooms, cafeteria and bus zones.
