Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to support students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. You will help implement instructional plans, monitor behavior, attend IEP meetings, and coordinate with teachers and parents to support student progress.

The role involves adapting activities for diverse needs, maintaining records, and ensuring safe, structured learning environments. Strong collaboration and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following.
• a) Qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment.
• b) An associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• c) Seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher.
• d) An apprenticeship as a paraeducator registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments and materials to include all special education students.
• Administer a variety of materials and assignments to assist the teacher in evaluating progress.
• Administer first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Assist students requiring support in personal care due to medical conditions.
• Attend meetings and in-service trainings for job knowledge.
• Confer with teachers and/or parents on student progress and IEP objectives.
• Direct and implement behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
• Instruct students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and remediation.
• Maintain instructional materials and student files/records.
• Monitor students in various school environments for safety and learning.
