Job summary

SiSTEM is seeking experienced in-person tutors to work with motivated students in the Manvel/Pomona area. You’ll partner with families to build real understanding, stronger study strategies, and lasting confidence in coursework.

This is not a volume tutoring role. Tutors meet face-to-face in homes, libraries, or community spaces, tailoring sessions to each student’s needs. You set your own rates and keep 100% of what you earn while helping students grow across subjects.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of teaching, tutoring, or academic mentoring experience.
• Deep subject expertise in at least one listed subject/grade band.
• Reliable transportation and ability to meet students in person in the Manvel/Pomona area.
• Experience with honors, Pre-AP, AP, IB, gifted, dual credit, or test prep settings.
• Proven track record of helping students improve grades and confidence.
• Clear, patient communication and the ability to make concepts click.
• Applicants must have completed high school; current students are not eligible.

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one and in person with students in grades K-12 in your subject areas.
• Help students develop deeper conceptual understanding, not just finish homework.
• Build study habits, problem-solving strategies, and confidence that carry across subjects.
• Identify and close gaps in foundational skills that are holding students back.
• Align your sessions with each student's broader academic roadmap through SiSTEM's planning tools.
• Communicate with families on progress and strategy when appropriate.
• Maintain high standards of preparation and professionalism.
