Job summary

SiSTEM is seeking experienced tutors to work in person with motivated students and families in the Copperfield / Bear Creek area of Houston. Tutors provide one-on-one sessions across K-12, aligning with each student’s academic roadmap.

You’ll help build deep understanding, study habits, and confidence beyond homework. We value reliability, subject mastery, and clear communication, with in-person meetings at homes, libraries, schools, or other local spaces.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of teaching, tutoring, or academic mentoring experience.
• Deep expertise in at least one subject and grade band listed above.
• Reliable transportation and ability to meet students in person in the Houston area.
• Experience with honors, Pre-AP, AP, IB, gifted, dual credit, or test prep settings.
• Clear, patient communication and the ability to make a subject click for students.

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one and in person with students in grades K-12 in your subject areas.
• Help students develop deeper conceptual understanding, not just finish homework.
• Build the study habits, problem-solving strategies, and confidence across subjects.
• Identify and close gaps in foundational skills.
• Align sessions with each student's broader academic roadmap using SiSTEM's planning tools.
• Communicate with families on progress and strategy.
• Maintain high standards of preparation and professionalism.
