We're partnering with an established freight forwarding and customs brokerage team built around clean, audit-ready work and a no-politics, performance-first culture. They move volume — but they're not willing to trade accuracy for speed, and they need someone who can hold that line for a whole team, not just themselves.
The opportunity
This is a player-coach role. You'll oversee a team of entry writers — reviewing their work, resolving what they can't, and making sure the desk runs clean end to end. You're still hands-on with entries when it counts, but your real value is making sure nothing slips through.
What you'll own
- Team oversight — supervise and support a team of customs entry writers, reviewing entries in CargoWise for accuracy before they go out the door.
- Escalation point — step in on complex classifications, PGA requirements, and holds that your team can't clear on their own.
- Quality & compliance — set and enforce the standard for HS code accuracy, duty/tax treatment, and audit-ready documentation across the team.
- Workflow management — balance volume across the team, keep entries moving on time, and flag bottlenecks before they become backlogs.
- Training & development — bring new entry writers up to speed and keep the team sharp on changing regulations and PGA requirements.
- Client relationships — act as the senior point of contact for clients on import requirements, escalations, and process questions.
- Process improvement — spot recurring issues and fix the process, not just the entry.
Who you are
- An experienced customs professional with prior supervisory or lead experience — this isn't a first-time-manager seat.
- Genuinely comfortable in CargoWise daily, not just familiar with it.
- Strong on tariff classification, customs procedure, and import compliance, with the judgment to make the calls your team can't.
- Detail-obsessed, but able to step back and manage a team's output, not just your own.
- Comfortable holding people accountable without creating friction — performance-first, not politics-first.
- A confident communicator who can hold their own with clients and customs authorities alike.
- Solid working knowledge of Incoterms and standard shipping documentation.
