Job summary

The City of Springfield invites applications for a Land Use Inspector within Building Development Services. You will conduct field inspections and investigations to enforce nuisance and zoning codes, helping safeguard the community and support responsible development.

The role involves educating the public on applicable ordinances, pursuing abatements when needed, and appearing in court or hearings to represent the department. A strong customer-service mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science or related area.
• One year of experience in code enforcement or related field.
• An Associate's Degree in above or related discipline.
• Three years of experience in code enforcement, environmental area, or related field; substitutions allowed on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints regarding Nuisance and Zoning ordinances.
• Educate and interpret laws related to Nuisance and Zoning issues.
• Perform inspections on residential and commercial lots per Nuisance and Zoning ordinances.
• Enforce legal orders and coordinate abatements as needed.
• Represent Building Development Services in court or hearings related to inspections.
