Job summary

The City of Rolla is hiring a Building & Zoning Inspector to join the Community Development team in Rolla, MO. The role blends fieldwork, public interaction, and problem‑solving to enforce codes and inspect systems, read plans, and coordinate land use with residents, contractors, and departments.

Ideal candidates bring an associate’s degree, 1–2 years’ relevant experience, strong communication, and a valid Missouri driver’s license and will obtain ICC certifications within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of construction practices and ability to read plans.
• Valid Missouri Class F driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Enforce building codes and zoning regulations/code enforcement.
• Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with City Codes and ICC standards including inspections of framing, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Work with residents, contractors, and other City departments.
• Assist with land‑use coordination and zoning matters.
