Job summary

The City of Elmhurst's Public Works Department is hiring for Utility Maintenance Worker I/II to maintain the city's water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. You will perform routine maintenance, assist with leak detection, sewer monitoring, and repairing water services and mains.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid Illinois driver's license, and CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within a year. Physical labor, safety compliance, and overtime flexibility are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; at least one year in water, sewer, or utility maintenance.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license; CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within one year.
• Class D certification (Worker I) within one year; Collections certification within one year.
• Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance; able to work in all weather.
• Willingness to perform outdoor, heavy manual labor and safety-conscious conduct.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water, sanitary, and storm systems and meters.
• Assist with leak detection, sewer monitoring, and sampling activities.
• Participate in construction, maintenance, and repair of lines, inlets, and manholes.
• Assist in water service repairs, main breaks, valves, hydrants, and taps.
• Operate/assist televising and flushing equipment; use tablets for reporting.
• Support snow removal and road salting; ensure safe work areas and compliance.
• Respond to emergencies, attend safety programs, and promote community relations.
