Job summary

City of Elmhurst seeks an Operator I or II to support operation and maintenance of water production and wastewater systems. The role ranges from entry-level to skilled, with responsibilities including safe operation, adherence to safety procedures, and emergency response.

The position covers WRF operations, potable water system operations, and sanitary lift stations with stormwater assets; on-call rotations and teamwork are required. Licenses and CDL guidance are part of the progression.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Operator I requires experience or training.
• Operator II requires 1 year of experience or training in operation of water/wastewater systems.
• CDL Class A license with air brakes is preferred.
• IEPA license as noted is required for Operator I.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain WRF and related systems.
• Collect and analyze process lab data; adjust operations based on data.
• Collect and analyze NPDES samples and adjust operations as needed.
• Operate potable water facilities and perform required sampling for compliance.
• Maintain sanitary lift stations and stormwater assets; perform routine tasks.
• Stay on-call within 12 months of hire and respond to emergencies.
• Mentor and train other employees as assigned.
