Job summary

The Y of Central Maryland is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach lessons in line with YMCA guidelines, ensuring participant safety and creating a positive, engaging atmosphere for all swimmers.

The role requires compliance with safety standards, effective communication, and the ability to assess and progress swimmers through levels, with opportunities for career growth within a mission-driven organization.

Qualifications

• Minimum CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Lifeguard certification is preferred.
• Successful completion of the YMCA swim test.
• Flexible availability including evenings and weekends.
• Completion of required new hire training including child abuse prevention.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons based on YMCA curriculum and adapt to group needs.
• Ensure safety by enforcing pool rules and supervising during lessons.
• Assess swimmer abilities and progress through levels.
• Prepare lesson areas and return equipment after use.
• Maintain consistent attendance for scheduled classes.
• Engage participants and encourage skill development.
• Promote YMCA swim programs to families.
• Support a clean, safe, inclusive environment.
