Job summary

The YMCA of Central Maryland in Towson is seeking a Swim Instructor I to teach swim lessons in line with YMCA guidelines, ensuring safety and a positive learning environment for all swimmers. This role requires adaptability to meet diverse student needs and a commitment to the YMCA's values.

You will prepare lesson areas, assess swimmer progress, enforce pool rules, and communicate with families. Flexible evenings and weekend availability, prior swim instruction experience, and current CPR/AED,

Qualifications

• Prior swim instruction experience preferred.
• Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Lifeguard certification preferred.
• Successful completion of the YMCA swim test.
• Flexible availability including evenings and weekends.
• Completion of required new hire training including child abuse prevention.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons based on YMCA curriculum and adapt instruction to meet needs.
• Ensure participant safety by enforcing pool rules and supervising during lessons.
• Assess swimmer abilities and provide appropriate progression.
• Prepare and set up lesson areas with required equipment and return items after lessons.
• Maintain consistent attendance and arrange substitutes if needed with lesson plans.
• Engage with participants and families to promote YMCA swim programs.
