Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a dedicated Special Education teacher to coordinate and provide instructional programs for students with IEPs. You will monitor and evaluate services, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a safe learning environment.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and NC licensure for exceptional children.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of special education instructional practices.
• Strong knowledge of standards and developmental expectations.
• Familiarity with state/federal policies for services to students with disabilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Protect confidentiality of pupil data per FERPA and related laws.
• Collaboration in a team environment.
• Ability to motivate students.
• Monitor safety and student well-being.
• Support diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
• Clear oral and written communication.
• Build effective relationships with staff, students, parents.

Responsibilities

• Develops IEPs for students with disabilities; implements and updates as needed.
• Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring.
• Assists students in completing curriculum tasks and IEP goals.
• Uses varied teaching methods and materials to meet needs.
• Monitors behavior, maintains discipline, and teaches behavior strategies.
• Evaluates progress and coordinates grades.
• Attends IEP meetings as a collaborative team member.
• Stays current on trends and best practices through PD and collaboration.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
