Job summary

Thom Child & Family Services is seeking a Parent Educator to deliver the Parents as Teachers home visiting program in Lowell. Roles include supporting families with child development, parent-child relationships, and readiness for school, with caseloads around 12 families.

Full-time positions are 40 hours weekly and salaried at $43,680; part-time roles are 20 hours weekly with pay at $21,841. Benefits include health insurance options, retirement plans, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of supervised experience working with young children, birth to age 5, and/or families.
• Knowledge of Lowell-area community resources and services preferred.
• Ability to build rapport with families in a non-judgmental, empathetic, culturally responsive manner.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, organizational, and time management skills.
• Bilingual skills are preferred for candidates serving bilingual communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide regular, long-term home visiting services to enrolled families.
• Establish trusting, supportive relationships with families using a strength-based and family-centered approach.
• Support parents in strengthening parent-child relationships and promoting healthy child development.
• Provide parent education related to child development, school readiness, health, safety, and positive parenting practices.
• Assist families in identifying goals, monitoring progress, and building problem-solving and advocacy skills.
• Conduct required screenings, assessments, and program tools according to the standardized timeline.
• Connect families to community resources, healthcare, and other supportive services as needed.
• Maintain accurate client records, documentation, and program reporting.
• Report concerns related to child maltreatment, child/family safety, mental health, substance use, or domestic violence in accordance with mandated reporter responsibilities.
• Occasionally may need to work flexible hours, including some evenings, to accommodate family schedules and group events.
