Job summary

KODE is seeking an Outpatient Surgery and Observation Coder to review facility records and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes for same-day surgery and observation accounts. This role requires accuracy and independence, with a focus on timely updates and high-quality coding outputs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus completion of a coding certification program.
• Associates or Bachelors in Health Information Management or similar preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of outpatient coding experience supporting hospital facility coding.
• ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS experience required.
• Coding credential from AHIMA/AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews outpatient records to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes for same day surgery and observation.
• Meets and exceeds productivity and quality standards (target is 6.25/hour – SDS, 3.5/hour – OBS).
• Updates charges (as needed) and processes records promptly.
• Reviews tasks and corrects codes as necessary.
