Job summary

Avon Elementary School is seeking a caring and dependable individual to fill a long-term substitute Special Education Paraprofessional role. The position involves supporting students with a range of learning, behavioral, social, and daily living needs under guidance from licensed staff.

Responsibilities include providing academic support, reinforcing skills, and collaborating with teachers to monitor progress and implement IEPs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minnesota driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
• Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
• Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow student IEPs, behavioral plans, district procedures, and staff direction.
• Previous experience with children or students with special needs is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic and classroom support to students individually and in small groups.
• Reinforce skills and concepts introduced by licensed staff.
• Support students in accessing and participating in classroom activities and assignments.
• Adapt or modify assignments under staff direction.
• Support students with social skills, sensory needs, and navigating school settings.
• Implement student IEP and behavioral plans as directed by licensed staff.
• Reinforce positive behaviors and assist with de-escalation and behavioral support.
• Assist students with daily living skills and mobility needs as appropriate.
• Collect and monitor student progress and required data.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff regarding student needs and progress.
• Provide supervision and support during various school activities and routines.
• Follow district procedures and maintain a safe environment.
