Job summary

First Place For Youth is seeking an organized HR Coordinator in Oakland, CA to manage onboarding, benefits, records, and compliance. You will be a trusted point of contact for staff HR questions, handling confidential information with tact in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.

The role focuses on supporting the full employee lifecycle—from onboarding to offboarding—while maintaining accurate files, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with Payroll and vendors to keep operations running

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• At least 2 years of Human Resources or HR administrative experience.
• Commitment to cultural competency and belonging.
• Working knowledge of core HR functions and employment documentation; familiarity with California employment and leave requirements.
• Experience using an HRIS and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Onboard new hires, including paperwork, system setup, and first-day logistics.
• Maintain accurate personnel files and I-9/CCL documentation.
• Enter and audit employee data in the HRIS; run standard reports.
• Coordinate benefits enrollment and assist with open enrollment.
• Support payroll coordination and process HR vendor invoices.
• Coordinate offboarding and exit procedures.
• Assist with audits and licensing compliance.
• Respond to HR inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
