Job summary

First Place For Youth, a leading nonprofit aiding foster youth, seeks an HR Manager to lead day-to-day HR operations, HRIS management, recruiting, leaves, benefits, compliance, and onboarding across programs. Reporting to the VP of People, this hands-on role requires discretion, trust, and cross-site collaboration.

You will drive recruitment, training, and employee relations, while supervising HR staff and ensuring accurate data, reporting, and policy adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of HR experience.
• 2–4 years of supervisory experience required.
• Experience with a multi-site workforce preferred.
• Knowledge of CA and federal employment law.
• Hands-on HRIS administration and data maintenance.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Commitment to cultural competency.
• Occasional evening/weekend work and travel may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Administers HRIS, creates reports, ensures data integrity.
• Partners with Recruiter on recruiting and onboarding; maintains job descriptions.
• Supports employee relations and performance processes.
• Manages leaves, benefits open enrollment, and payroll coordination.
• Ensures compliance with employment laws and reporting requirements.
• Delivers HR training; supports performance management.
• Supervises HR Generalist and Recruiter; sets goals and provides feedback.
