Job summary

Metro YMCA of the Oranges is seeking a part-time Youth Program Assistant to support after-school activities in East Orange, NJ. You will supervise children, ensure safety, manage attendance, and assist with daily program operations under the guidance of the Program Director.

Responsibilities include leading activities, snack support, homework help, and participation in staff development and licensing compliance. A sign-on bonus may apply; start is September 2026 and ends June 2027.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; college credits preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication with staff, parents, and school staff.
• Ability to problem solve and make decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
• Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and planning skills.
• 1-3 years Supervisory experience.
• 1-3 years working with children in a group setting in Before/Afterschool programs.
• CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required.
• Experience adhering to Licensing requirements

Responsibilities

• Maintain attendance of all students and staff daily and report as requested.
• Ensure child safety by following supervision standards and licensing requirements.
• Validate sign-in/out by authorized guardians and log times.
• Handle First-Aid and emergency paperwork per YMCA protocols.
• Use positive group management and address behavior per policy.
• Coach and manage day-to-day duties of group leaders/assistants.
• Oversee daily activities including snacks, homework support, supervision and cleanup.
• Ensure staff model positive behavior and meet performance expectations.
• Plan weekly curriculum with activities across physical, nutrition, STEAM and SEL.
• Promote YMCA programs and camps to families and assist with events.
