Job summary

Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project, a program of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., seeks a Managing Attorney to supervise immigration representation for detained adults and minors in the LA jurisdiction. The role includes direct supervision of staff attorneys and support staff, ensuring contract compliance, data reporting, and policy development.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate.
• Active California Bar License, or willingness to sit for the next available CA Bar Exam.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the practice of law, preferably in immigration law.
• Immigration court litigation experience strongly preferred.
• Experience litigating in state dependency, family, criminal or probate courts preferred.
• Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills.
• Interest in working with and relating to young, newly arrived immigrants and those with mental health issues.
• Interest in working with clients with long criminal histories or past gang affiliations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff attorneys and support staff in providing zealous representation in removal proceedings and related state court proceedings.
• Represent clients zealously before EOIR, BIA, USCIS, and California state courts as needed.
• Assign new cases to staff attorneys with fairness and clarity.
• Ensure contract compliance, data management, and reporting.
