Job Title: Associate Attorney – Immigration Law (Removal Defense, Family-Based and Humanitarian Immigration)
Position Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000 – $90,000 per year, commensurate with experience
About Us:
We are a dynamic immigration law firm specializing in removal defense, family-based immigration, and humanitarian cases. Our mission is to provide compassionate and effective legal representation to individuals and families navigating the complexities of the U.S. immigration system. We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative, inclusive workplace where employees are supported and valued.
Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our immigration practice. This role is open to newly admitted and entry-level attorneys as well as those with prior immigration experience, and offers a strong opportunity to grow your legal career in a supportive environment that values work-life balance and professional development. The attorney will work under the supervision of the Managing Attorney, who will provide oversight and guidance on complex casework — this is a collaborative role, not a solo caseload.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and filing family-based immigration petitions, including family-based petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing, and waivers.
- Represent clients at USCIS interviews and immigration court hearings.
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide updates, and address their concerns.
- Represent clients in cases involving removal defense, asylum, cancellation of removal, VAWA, U visas, T visas, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS).
- Provide representation for detained and non-detained clients in immigration proceedings.
- Represent detained clients in ICE custody, including bond hearings and custody redetermination.
- Accompany and represent clients at ICE check-ins.
- Litigate habeas corpus petitions under 28 U.S.C. § 2241 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts challenging unlawful immigration detention, under the supervision of the Managing Attorney.
- Prepare clients for their master and individual hearings.
- Review bond packages and represent clients before the immigration court in bond hearings.
- Stay informed about changes in immigration laws, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient case management.
- Participate in community events and know-your-rights presentations.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and in good standing. Newly admitted attorneys are encouraged to apply.
- Prior experience or coursework in immigration law preferred.
- Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts a plus (firm will support admission for the right candidate).
- Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire a plus.
- Experience with removal defense, asylum, VAWA, U visas, and T visas a plus.
- Courtroom experience, particularly representing asylum seekers, a plus.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Bilingual Spanish required; knowledge of an additional language is a plus.
- Comfortable and familiar with the use and operation of legal technology.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
