Job summary

Huntsville Hospital in Decatur, AL seeks a dedicated Patient Transporter to move patients to and from the Imaging Department. You will assist technologists with patient transfer, verify patient identity, and communicate patient status clearly to the care team.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma and 1 year of healthcare experience. Strong communication, speed, accuracy, and multitasking are essential to ensure safe, efficient transport and patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year health care experience preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients in safe, efficient manner.
• Secures “ticket to ride.” with Meditech system.
• Introduces self to patient and family.
• Use two (2) identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity.
• In coordination with Nursing staff determines most appropriate mode of transport according to patient condition.
• Properly fills out Patient Transport log book.
• Utilizes proper transfer techniques.
• Uses safe and appropriate body mechanics.
• Insures that adequate number of personnel are present.
• Uses roller and slide transfer devices as appropriate.
• Secures bed, stretcher, wheelchair prior to transfer.
• Follows hospital guidelines for Infection Control Practices
• Practices Universal Precautions in the care of patients.
• Uses hand sanitize properly with all patients.
• Follows all standard precautions as posted.
• Informs Technologists of standard precautions to be followed for individual patients.
• Properly secures equipment that accompany patient.
• Verifies and maintains proper oxygen flow rates.
• Maintains proper position of IV bags.
• Maintains proper position of chest tubes.
• Maintains proper position of urinary drainage bags.
