Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant to support students with disabilities in regular or self-contained classrooms. The role involves assisting in implementing IEPs, monitoring behavior, and collaborating with teachers to adapt activities for participation.

Responsibilities include assisting in evaluating progress, maintaining records, attending meetings, and ensuring safety and personal care support for students as needed.

Qualifications

• Qualifying paraeducator requirements per PESB: ETS score, associate degree, or 72 quarter credits.
• Experience working with children is preferred.
• Valid WA driver's license and required clearances (background checks).

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities and materials to include all students.
• Assist in evaluating progress and organizing student needs.
• Administer first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Support students with personal care needs to enable participation.
• Attend meetings and communicate with teachers/parents about progress.
• Implement behavioral plans and monitor safety.
