Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support instruction in general or self-contained classrooms. You will implement IEP plans, monitor behavior, and assist in recordkeeping and communication with staff.

Responsibilities include adapting activities, assisting with student care, attending IEP meetings, and coordinating with teachers to monitor progress and ensure inclusive participation for all students.

Qualifications

• Includes basic math, reading comprehension, and ability to follow multi-step instructions.
• Knowledge of instructional procedures and child development stages.
• Ability to perform data entry and record keeping.
• Willingness to participate in meetings and trainings (CPR, First Aid).

Responsibilities

• Adapt activities and materials under teacher guidance to include all students.
• Assist in evaluating student progress and organizing individual needs.
• Administer first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Support students with personal care needs as needed to enable participation.
• Attend meetings and contribute to IEP discussions and progress notes.
• Coordinate with teachers and parents to share student progress.
