Job summary

NSSA in New York is seeking an instructional and support service specialist to counsel and evaluate curriculum activities and methodologies. You will collaborate with school staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.

You will prepare IEPs, participate in IEP/department meetings, monitor student progress, and maintain confidential documentation. Occasional travel up to 25% and strict adherence to NSSA policies are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology or related field required.
• Valid NYS driver's license with acceptable driving history.
• Two years teaching experience preferred.
• New York State Certification in Special Education a plus.
• Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis.
• Requires basic language, written and computer skills for communication and documentation.
• Ability to support individuals with challenging behavior.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Serve on diagnostic educational evaluation team considering placement or program change for children requiring special education and ensure parental involvement.
• Develop the assigned students' educational curriculum with classroom staff and clinical team.
• Coordinate meetings (IEP, Department, School) to convey/gather information for duties.
• Prepare written materials (e.g. IEP) documenting student progress and goals.
• Assess student progress toward objectives and provide feedback to stakeholders.
• Evaluate progress and update programming per IEPs and select methods/materials.
• Daily data collection and progress recording.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of service documents and plans.
