Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a compassionate healthcare assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role focuses on comfort, safety, and family-centered service while handling routine duties and vital signs.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, transporting patients, basic lab tasks, and supporting routine unit operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care under RN supervision.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and bed-making as needed.
• Safely transport patients to tests, and escort for discharge.
• Perform glucose monitoring, urine/stool tests, and maintain logs.
• Perform routine phlebotomy services as directed.
• Record vital signs and patient conditions per policy.
• Provide respiratory support and assist with oxygen administration.
• Support nutrition discussions with RN and document concerns.
• Maintain infection control and a clean, safe environment.
• Assist with routine unit operations and answer calls/messages promptly.
