Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks an ICS Engineer (Engineer 2/3) to design, program, and maintain PLC/RTU logic for critical utility and facility control systems in a demanding, mission‑driven environment.

You will work at the intersection of engineering, operations, and cybersecurity to ensure safe, reliable, and resilient control of essential infrastructure in Los Alamos, NM. This role involves hands‑on lifecycle support and collaboration across IT/OT teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience programming PLCs/RTUs in utility/industrial environments.
• Familiarity with Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP and related field communications.
• Experience with testing, commissioning and troubleshooting control systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, program, test, and maintain PLC/RTU logic for utility and facility control systems.
• Support commissioning, upgrades, and modifications in live environments.
• Troubleshoot control logic, I/O, and field device integration issues.
• Create control system design packages with architecture diagrams and narratives.
• Integrate PLCs/RTUs with HMIs, SCADA, historians, OT networks.
• Provide operational support including diagnostics and optimization.
