Job summary

MACH-20 is seeking a seasoned Materials Engineer to provide SETA advisory support for a high-priority Air Force air-launched hypersonics program. You will evaluate aerospace materials and processes, review contractor data, and help ensure MIL-STDs, environmental durability, and lifecycle requirements are met.

The role emphasizes deep technical analysis, objective assessment of supplier deliverables, and collaboration within IPTs across aerodynamics, thermal, structural, and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering or related ABET-accredited program.
  • 10+ years in materials and process engineering; 2+ years supporting DoD weapons systems or missiles.
  • Experience with aerospace structural metals, advanced composites, protective surface treatments.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STDs, MIL-HDBK-516, ASTM, AMS, AWS, MMPDS.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to summarize findings for leadership.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance; ability to obtain TS/SCI.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent technical evaluation of aerospace alloys, PMCs/CMCs, ceramics and high-temperature adhesives.
  • Review prime contractor drawings, M&P specs, qualification test plans and qualification packages.
  • Coordinate failure analyses with government and contractor labs; drive root cause actions.
  • Oversee CPCP implementation; evaluate coatings, anodizing, TBCs and surface treatments.
  • Assess advanced manufacturing workflows (autoclave, AM, welding) for repeatability and quality.
  • Guide qualification tests and environmental screening per MIL-STD and CMH-17.
