Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD seeks motivated engineers pursuing a degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, CS or related fields to join the Hypersonic and Reentry Systems team. You will prototype, develop, and analyze next-generation hypersonic vehicles and enabling technologies to advance national defense capabilities.

The role involves CAD modeling, software development, aerodynamic analysis, and multi-disciplinary collaboration, with opportunities to contribute to trade

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in a related field (Aerospace/Mechanical/CS).
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Interest in modeling/simulation, software development, vehicle design, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, or trajectory optimization.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required and able to start with clearance process.

Responsibilities

  • Generate CAD models for vehicle prototypes.
  • Develop software to model complex flight systems.
  • Perform aerodynamic/aerothermal analyses on hypersonic vehicles.
  • Use modeling and simulation tools for trade studies and performance assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to design reentry systems.
  • Produce reports and presentations communicating findings to sponsors and partners.
