Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in Grants County, NM is seeking a skilled mechanic to safely diagnose, maintain, and repair equipment, pumps, and systems in the Hydrometallurgical process. The role focuses on preventive maintenance and critical repairs across pumps, valves, and piping.

You will work with upenders, mixers, compressors, overhead cranes, and welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Stick), and may mentor colleagues. The job requires English communication, safety awareness, and the ability to work in a 24/7

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or equivalent.
• Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and complete required competencies.
• FPM Diagnostic Mechanic I: pass a 35% written assessment and show basic welding skills.
• Ability to understand and apply English safety instructions and procedures.
• Proficiency in welding/cutting (MIG, TIG, Stick).
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pumps, valves, expansion joints and related components.
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, maintain and repair equipment, pumps and systems in the Hydrometallurgical process.
• Repair components such as upenders, mixers, compressors, pumps, piping and related hardware.
• Perform preventive maintenance, check oil levels, seals, and filters.
• Remove, repair and install piping and pump components (valves, joints, check valves).
• Operate mobile equipment as required (lifts, cranes, forklifts).
• Weld on structures and equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick).
• Prioritize repairs and mentor other employees; may serve as Fill-in Supervisor.
• Perform other duties as required.
