Job summary

Brookfield Renewable N.A. is seeking a Power Plant Operator for Safe Harbor, PA, a 417MW hydroelectric generating station.

The PPO will operate and switch high-voltage equipment, manage water treatment processes, and coordinate with Control Center and external entities to maintain safe, compliant plant operation. The role requires rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime, with a focus on safety, regulatory compliance (FERC, NERC, DEP), and emergency response.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical prints.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Clear communication skills (oral, written, electronic).
• Experience with hydro-electric dam operations is preferred.
• Experience with repair and maintenance of hydro turbine/generator systems is preferred.
• Maintain medical clearance for respirator use.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for 24/7 operation of the station with rotating 12‑hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Performs safe operation and switching of generators, transformers, and associated equipment.
• Maintains knowledge of station auxiliary power systems and conducts 460V ground searches.
• Conducts PJM and NERC testing as assigned on generation equipment.
• Directs station operations during high flow, ice jam events, and emergencies.
• Communicates with Control Center, Water Resource Managers, and Marketing Team; responds to alarms.
• Coordinates high-voltage switching activities with external entities such as the transmission company and Amtrak.
• Operates the Filtered Water and Wastewater facilities to meet water quality standards.
