Job summary

State of Oregon, Department of Administrative Services, Salem, OR, is seeking an experienced z/OS Systems Administrator to lead the design, installation, and optimization of complex IBM Mainframe environments for statewide IT operations. The role requires expert troubleshooting and vendor management to support essential state agency services.

The ideal candidate will have deep z/OS knowledge, SMS/DMS expertise, and strong project management skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years information systems experience in a shared services mainframe environment with z/OS and related software.
• An associate or higher in IT, CS, or closely related field plus 5 years in a mainframe environment and related software.
• Bachelor’s degree in IT/CS plus 3 years in a shared mainframe environment.
• Master’s degree in IT/CS plus 1 year in a shared mainframe environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, installation, and optimization of complex IBM Mainframe environments statewide.
• Provide expert troubleshooting to minimize critical service interruptions.
• Evaluate software, perform cost/benefit analyses, and recommend changes.
• Coordinate with multiple agencies and manage vendor selections for mainframe needs.
